(User Warning - have your FUN meter turned on before reading.
No sour pusses or rain-makers invited to what is a very light-hearted and playful “announcement,” esp. YOU Mr. MortgageandBabies.com Guy. Everyone makes their own choices in life, and lives by the results.

Besides, Stumpy is a grandpa, he’s done his time. He’s, like, OLD. Ask A-Train.

That said…)

In a concentrated, concerted, continuing, rather spontaneous, some might say even whimsical effort to have the longest thru-hike in a 365-day year, just because (can you think of a really good reason NOT to?) Stumpknocker has decided to hike the Florida Trail WITHIN his AT thruhike. This idea just occurred to him.

He’s already 8 months into his third AT thru, with 175 AT miles left, and has already taken time off to thruhike the Sierra’s John Muir Trail in September.

He’s starting from Key West with Hippie later in the week, and will walk north, likely meeting friend Crash Test Dummy coming south, who is finishing the ECT trek he started in '03.

All you Floridians, keep an eye out for 'ol Stumpy and also Hippie Longstockings, another inveterate hiker who just can’t seem to stop walking. I’ve encouraged them to keep going up the Pinhoti and back to Springer. Then there’s the IAT…

Four months is plenty of time to knock around. Right?

THIS is why we read TrailJournals - because something grand about the free spirit in US enjoys the free spirit in others.

Hike happy!

Shoe,

I ran into Crash Test Dummy at the Central Florida Trail Association gathering at Doe Lake over New Years. I had oringinally met him in Hot Springs in April of 04. He gave a slide show presentation about his journey and several of us had a good time talking.

He has about 400 miles to go to finish his trip. I am sure Stumpknocker will run into him as he heads north.

I was getting worried I would run out of journals to read prior to the new crop. It’s a good thing he’s afraid of you or you’d be in trouble calling him old.

hey blue jay is right, if they are younger than blue jay, they can’t be old…hehehe

Shoe,

Stumpy has figured out this is the only chance he has to get his journal hits up to the neighborhood of your 2003 journal.:lol

I would love to have the carefree easy life of Stumpy and Hippie. I get out as much as I can but when I can’t I just follow them. Hope to hike with them when they are in FL. Sue/HH

BJ, you won’t get in “trouble” calling Stumpy old. I do it all the time

And Hey old man, if you’re reading this, go get a job and do something useful with your time, you’re boring us all to death:boy

Hey Jan,

That’s cool! I’ll be starting a Florida Trail thru-hike this Sunday, January 9th. I’ll be starting in Big Cypress but it is quite possible that we will run into each other.

Best,
David

Those pink tights Stumpy likes to wear ought to fit right in down there in Key West. I hope alligators aren’t attracted to old hikers in pink.
