This may be late for some of this year’s hikers, but I wanted to make everyone aware of a problem I’ve found with the new LG Env I am now using.
I journaled last year with an older and larger model of the LG Env and although not perfect, it was generally easy to use and worked well. That Env went through more rough stuff than I would expect any cell phone to live through.
I now have the newer model LG Env. It is a more streamline phone which is nice, but I found when I was typing a picture/text that this phone is MUCH slower accepting the typed units.
The phone is limited to 1,000 letters and spaces when sending a picture/text. That’s how I sent in my journal entries last year. I would normally send five picture/texts…totaling about 5,000 units for each day’s journal entry, from that day’s walk to my transcriber and she would copy and paste them in the right order on my Trail Journal site.
I could work with that okay…it just made a little more work for Mrs Gorp, or when she couldn’t post my journal, Hammock Hanger would take over. Those two girls didn’t have much to do anyway. Ha!!
There is a problem with the new LG Env. When I was typing a picture/text the other day, I noticed that as I got maybe 400 units typed, I was typing faster than the phone was accepting each unit or letter typed. It kept getting slower and slower accepting the units typed. I would have to stop typing and let the phone “catch up” with my typing…and I’m not really that fast at typing. I would get three or four words ahead of the phone.
My advice…I would look for a better phone if any of you are planning on sending in your journal entries with your cell phone this year.
I would have posted this on Whiteblaze too, but my New Year’s resolution was to NOT post on Whiteblaze for the rest of 2009. That site gets addicting and I find myself sitting with my laptop, spending WAY too much time talking about walking on Whiteblaze, when I should outside playing.
