Sub-100 day butterflies?

Wow, I thought the closer to the starting date of my hike would see me getting more and more confident. It’s not exactly the opposite, but I have surges of doubts of particular unknowns. To be honest, I’ve never been out long enough to need to do a maildrop and ressupply. Funny or not, I’m more worried about functioning in trail towns than on the trail. Trail life is simple, I’m just not sure about town stops. Will I have enough money? The right type of credit to get cash? Will I run into maildrop problems? Will stores be closed? This is weird. Anybody have advice, comments?

You got a case of the last minute jitters… kinda like getting married. The maildrops are a piece of cake. I use to fret that my maildrop would not be, I’d be early, etc. They were always there and usually a very nice Postal work with a word of encouragement. As for trail towns, just be yourself (well, that’s if “yourself” is polite). Every trail town I’ve encountered was usually very welcoming to me. I was always polite and friendly to the community people I met. Rides, store owners, hotel/hostel staff. I always tried to make them feel like they were the nicest people for helping me out. I never acted cocky or like they owed me. I always carried my ATM, 1 Credit Card and $50.00 cash. This way I always felt I had it covered. I remember once at the NOC I was just hiking thru but really wanted a shower. They couldn’t take CC for such a small amount ($3.), so I started to take my boot off where I had stashed a fifty dollar bill. The guy looked at me, laughed and told me to keep my boots on and go enjoy my “free” shower. – You will be way ahead of me, as I do not leave for another 163 days. So, I will be comiing up the rear and expect to read some interesting trail journal input from Mr. Sweeper. I’ll be looking. Enjoy.

Sweeper: I sure hope hamockhngr is wrong with the marriage analogy, both of those turned out poorly. My concerns are primarily about having things done properly to keep my “off trail life” going smoothly. I am working on auto bill payments, someone to mow the lawn etc. I like the forum, thanks for the tip. See ya soon. cloyd perkins 2001
