Sugar substitute

I just tried some Splenda (sugar substitute) for the first time the other day. I could hardly tell the difference. One packet was all I need for a cup of tea. With the amount of sugar I like to use that should shave off a few ounces. I’m sure this isn’t going to be a epiphany for anyone but just in case anyone else hadn’t thought of it(or tried it).

Spenda is the bomb!! Much better than sweet n low or equal… Still tastes fake but not nearly as much as the blue and the pink stuff.

Ditto BC. No reactions unless you count massive bloating an trail wind to beat all. I think my butt caved in…back to the sugar/honey for me.

Have you ever tried agave nectar? Its extracted from the agave cactus. It is very tastey, sweet, not artifical tasting, and it has a low glycemic index! au natural!

I like honey powder–weighs about the same as sugar, I guess, so it wouldn’t be much of a weight savings. But I find that I don’t need as much of it, relative to sugar.

Hey Transcriber. I’ve usually picked up small quantities at my local natural foods co-op. You can probably find it in a health food store near you, located with other sweeteners or in the bulk foods area. Online, there are dozens of retailers. Google it (make sure to look for pure honey or blends that are 70% or more), or here are a few suggestions:

Has anyone tried to make honey powder? With a dehydrator it might be possible to dry some on a durable non-stick surface and then scrap it off. I would imagine that it absorbs water from the air and clumps rather quickly. Might have to add some other element. Any thoughts?

I bought some granulated maple syrup one time; ABSOLUTELY yummy; but I wasn’t sure how to use it; besides on cereal. Ideas?? I also haven’t seen it anywhere as of recent. Thanks for listing the website.

ONLY SPLENDA for me…anything else is either unhealthy…like honey…or weight wise not smart!!!

You might try stevia. It’s an herbal sweetener. I buy mine from NuNaturals (www.nunaturals.com) although most health food stores carry it. You don’t need much - it’s very sweet. I prefer the stevia powder over the liquid. There are quite a few brands of stevia out there - I’ve tried several - but the NuNaturals brand seems the purest and tastes the best to me. It’s all I use anymore.

If you seriously think splenda is healthier than honey then you are a world class [insert insult here].

happy hater, for me, splenda is definately healthier than honey. being diabetic, sugar, maple crystals, honey, whatever, I can’t have it. Splenda is natural, contains no phenylalenine, no amino acids like equal, and bakes and mixes exactly like sugar. Made a cheesecake and an apple pie this weekend for my dads birthday with splenda and they came out perfect, everyone loved em. All they do is remove one of the hydrogen groups i believe from a regular sugar molecule and replace it with another inert molecule, so your body can’t digest it. My ex wife who is a biochemist explained it to me but i don’t completely remember the whole process.

Its a miracle of modern science that fools your taste buds and your bloodstream. I just wish they made Coca-cola with it.
