When hiking the Southern portions of the AT in mid summer do you still need a 3-season bag or can you get by with a liner or something really light?
Thanks

The average temps in the Smokies during June is mid 50’s for lows and low 80’s for highs. In July and August it’s about 5 deg warmer. You should be fine with a bag liner or a lightweight fleece blanket, cut to size… It’s still possible to get a cool night in the 40’s but it’s not the norm…

It all depends on what kind of sleeper you are. If you sleep warm you can get by with a fleece liner… but it has snowed in the Smokies in the summer. Most fleece liners weigh around the same or more than a high quality summer bag. The Western Mountaineering Highlite is 16 oz and 40*… sumernice bag. Personally, I use the WM Iroquis. At 24 oz for a 38* bag it works very well.

Greg, I know you said something but I can’t quite figure it out. Keep on posting, though; sooner or later it will come to me.

Its all leagal. And I drink water, I still didn’t eat. What you don’t believe me. A bed sheet in summer? You don’t think I can hike the whole trail with $20.000 and just a cell phone? I just did that to get your thinking caps on once and a while. Lets go, now you see? And lets go somemore. and you can’t tape a potato chip bags together with duct tape and make a blanket same as a space blanket.
Its not me thats crazy, you got all sorts of time to think of crazy stuff like that hiking. You got to admit I sure am the life of the party.:bawling :nerd :boy :pimp :smokin   :tongue  :frowning:
