Summer forest fire outlook

imported
#1

Hey everyone…

I was just listening to NPR and they had a story about the potential for forest fires this summer in the NW. This year is expected to be a record drought year with the highest possibility for forest fires since the Dust Bowl back in the 30’s (?). The areas most affected are going to be Northern California, Oregon and Washington State…

Also I live up in Sisters, Oregon… If anyone is passing thru town this fall on their PCT thru hikes look for a Burgundy Westfalia cruising around… I shall be loaded down with trail treats (read into that NW microbrews and FOOD!)… WAHOO…

Aswah, is there any way of reaching the sisters area by public transportation? Im considering hiking from Mackenzy Pass north to canada early in summer, if the forest isn’t burnt by then.
How much rain is there in your area in June?

Thanks

Roni,
The grey dog goes through Sisters. Last year it left Bend (or was it the town north of Bend?) around 9am and stopped in Sisters around 10am.

You won’t have to worry about fires the first coupla days. It all burned down in '03.

Does the bus service still run? Most greyhound lines in the west were canceld last summer.

Hey Roni…

if you need a ride email me. I just moved to Sisters and will be around for shuttling if you need it this summer.

You can take greyhound to Eugene and from there take the Porter Stage Lines shuttle to Sisters and Bend. If you asked the driver nice he would probably drop you off at the top of the pass.
