Supporting runners on the PCT

Short and sweet:

Anyone out there have next summer off (june to august), a reliable vehicle, and the want to help 2 supported runners set a new record on the PCT?

If so shoot me a email. Bink and Krud are trying to put something together for 2010 snow permitting of course.

Thanks for your consideration,

Krudmeister

I am not often inclined to post responses here on the forums but the response by Sure Footing was caustic enough that I wanted to counter balance it a bit. I can’t say that I have ever wanted to set a speed record on a distance trail. It just isn’t my hike. However, it is part of hiking culture. The desire to push your personal limits can be a motivating factor for a lot of folks on the trail. I would ask hikers turned off by these endeavors to consider how they may have very similar intentions at times if not at a smaller scale. Sometimes this means trying to hike further in one day then they ever have before or even just stepping on the trail the first time. These folks are still ultimately competing against themselves. There are no official arbiters of greatness here. Perhaps they are being a little showboaty but really no one outside of the hiking community pays much attention and since most trail notoriety is passed along on these types of forums you can just as soon become notable for a hiking feat as for being an acerbic and unwelcoming voice in the community. It just isn’t your hike.

I will be out on the PCT again this summer for another thru, it will be awesome to see the krudmeister and bink team at it again! Hope you can get all of the support you need and if there is anything I can do from the trail to help just let me know.

Good to see you, Krud and Bink at it again. I almost beat you guys last year to Canada, but to no avail. Even with us skipping 500 miles in Cali, you guys still got there 3 weeks before us. First place for so long then I was so sad, NOT!!!

I like the reality show idea. Last year I filled a whole notebook which I called my gossip rag. I got all the gossip from the pack, all the dirt. Who needed rescue, who was hating, or kissing on whom. What trail angels were fighting with other trail angels. My question was always, “what’s the worst thing you know about the best person?”, then of course the best about the worst person. I mailed it back to my trail angel in Bridgeport, Ca. But such a small package, containing the notebook, was lost in his house move. The humanity of it all. I wanted to organize it and give it out at the kickoff. I’m sure everyone would covet that gossip rag. Done in Tabloid style. Oh well next season.
