In cased you missed it, I heard on the radio that the Survivor from the program is going to host a half hour show on the History Channel covering Survival Technology. It begins on Monday Jan. 29 and runs for at least five nights. 10:00 PM Eastern, 9:00 central, 8:00 mountain, and 7:00 Pacific. Don’t know whether it will continue or not. It should be interesting just to see what they present.

My boss where i’m holding down a temporary job saw that and said it was very informative. Was it the Swedish army training programme? Don’t get cable, but he taped it.

Has anyone ever got a friction fire goimg by rubbing two gir…okay that’s and old one. How about two sticks? I tried this in Scouts back in the 70’s and couldn’t do it. I have seen it done on TV, by hand, no bow drill. This is one of my goal this year on the AT is to start a fire this way and cook a nice Bouillabaisse with local mudbugs and carp chunks. Sweeps, I’m tellin’ ya’ your missing out by starting to early. Springs onions anyone?

Yes, I have started a fire by friction without a bow, but after numerous attempts of doing it myself, I found that it was better to have two of you. Used a long stick for the drill, and starting at the top twirl it by hand. As your hands work down the drill, the partner starts from the top. This keeps the drill twirling. I have done it with a bamboo “saw”, and have tried to do it with a air pressure method. It got very hot, and so did I, but no spark. I prefer my homemade fire starters made from kitchen matches, string and wax.
