I want to flavor Ramen without the flavor pack, too much salt,MSG ect. Read the fine print and plan old bouillion cubes are just as bad. Have any cool ways to spice the old noodles?

Find green\red\yellow curry paste, some come without MSG. But, they are HOT. You can make it yourself too, search for recipes that won’t require refrigerator…

If you go to a co-op or ethnic food store, you can usually find some great pre-mixed spice powders: tandoori, curries, korma are all some great powdered mixes with lots of flavors usually of coriander, cardamom, cayenne, cumin, turmeric, garlic, etc instead of so much salt and MSG. If you’re being health conscious - they also have rice noodles which soften in warm water (no boiling needed) and aren’t pre-fried like a lot of the ramens are. Happy eating!

i def. agree with you, the flavor packs are way too salty, i prefer some italian seasoning myself, a little bit will go a long way

In the Spices section of most supermarkets, you can find a variety of flavors under brand names like Mrs. Dash and McCormick 1-Step.
Mrs. Dash promotes its salt-free ingredients. 1-Step has salt listed as an ingredient. Neither uses MSG. I’m sure there are other similar products in the Spices section.
I carry several such spices in those miniature containers sold at outfitters (1-oz. I think); they are about the size of 35mm film cannisters without the toxic residue.
These spices add a lot to Lipton-type meals and would probably be a good alternative for Ramen too. I’m partial to the 1-Step Lemon-Herb and the 1-Step Sloppy Joe.

have you ever read what’s in the noodles themselves? it’s just as bad as the flavor packet.

I use the Ramen noodles as the pasta for spaghetti. The sauce is Boboli Pizza sauce (comes pre-vacuum packed) with
A diced Slim-Jim added for flavor and Texture.

Hey, I’m not sure you should be critical of salt, at least for summer months on the AT. You’re out there sweating all day, constantly losing salt-- which your body does need.
Ultramarathoners, whose experience is not so very different from thru-hikers in the heat, typically eat salt in tablet form.

Tony Chachere’s low-salt original creole seasoning and/or Tabasco sauce! Makes everything taste better-including fresh grilled shelter mice!
Zydecajun
I agree with z-cajun…tony is the shizzne!!! I use it on everything at home, and it goes on all camping trips with me. Try it on fried potatos in any form, great on fish, burgers, steak, you gotta try it to beleive it. It is especially great on campfire-pan fried small mouth bass on the bank of a mountain river, as you kick back and watch the sunset over the trees while you dream about tommorrows canoe trip home…
sorry, i was dreaming again…summers coming…
