Has anyone ever taken their lap top on their AT hike? I plan to just do my phone. Someone who’s starting soon told me he’s taking his netbook. Seems like a bad idea to me.

im sure there are people who take laptops on the trail. Speaking as someone who carried too much stuff on my first hike, a laptop would be madness. way too much extra weight for not much point.

Most Smartphones can do every thing a Netbook can. Leave the Netbook at home and same a few precious pounds.

The last thing most people want to see on the trail is a laptop. That said, if you really must, put it in a bounce box so you have it when you go into town.

I’ve used a blackberry in towns for catching up. A laptop is just so much more weight for very little gain.
