I am looking for a tent to fit my 6’5" son. That means the sleepable floor space (not in narrow points or low corners) needs to be at least 87 inches long. It should also be tall enough for him to sit up. The perfect tent would be a 1-person tent, lightweight, maybe freestanding, but he may need a 2-person tent and sleep diagonally. Any suggestions?

there’s definitely not a huge number of lightweight tents that you can sit up in. You could check out the Hubba, it’s a freestanding tent and has some headspace. Also I ran head to toe in my PCT1 (I’m 6’5" also) and there was room to semi-sit up. I’m also thinking Six Moon Designs has a tarptent that you could sit up in. The tarptent I use now is plenty long enough, but you can’t sit up in it, which really isn’t that big a deal.

Check out Stephenson’s Warmlite 2R - (www.warmlite.com)plenty long (I’m 6’4"), tall enough to semi sit up and plenty of room for gear &/or 2nd person. Bit “pricey” though. I"m using one on an AT thru hike now - no issues.
ALso check out Henry Shires tarp tents - his new rainbow or double rainbow may fit the bill.

Be careful with the Big Agnes tents. Length was great, but sitting room a problem. I had a Sarvis 1+ but replaced it with a Black Diamond Hylite - height was only 38". Not enough for someone 6 ft.

I love my Sarvis SL1. As much room as a 2 man and light. Of course, I’m 5’10" and don’t hang out much in my tent. Everything is a trade-off. The BD HiLight has more headroom but has less length. According the BD website the Hilight is only 82" long compared to 90 " on the BA Seedhouse SL1. In addition, the BA Seedhouse is a double wall tent which has less condensation problems and offer the option of a fast fly set-up. I know it sounds like I must work for Big Agnes. Just have had good experiences with their products. Like their roomy sleeping bags too!
