Tarp tent - Appalachian Trail

I think I have decided to go with a tarp tent. Is there any other kinds than Henry Shire’s and Six Moon Desighns? Also can any body that has these send me there pictures, the web sites do not show enough detail.

I don’t have any pics of my tarptent virga, but the quality of this sheler exceeded my expectations. It’s well constructed and it’s obvious that attention is paid to the details and quality of components. IMHO, the Shires tarptent is a good value for the money and I’m kind of picky about equipment quality. In any case, it’s much better than I could have sewn for myself, outside of spendinng months to learn to sew. If you want more room than the virga, there’s a larger size. Given what I see with my Shires tarptent, I’d buy one again. Hope this helps.

I’m not familiar with the tarp tent you guys are talking about but don’t forget the bugs can get bad at night. Make sure you have some type of protection from them.

The Henry Shires Tarptents are just awesome. I feel totally secure from the elements and the bugs in my Virga. The updates on them look great too- lots more usable space inside. If you get a Virga, I’m sure you won’t be dissapointed.

Make sure you get one big enough that you dont touch it and that you can get out of it easily. They have a tendecy to collect moisture on the inside.

The original Henry Shire Design was being made by Moonbow Gear in Glencliffe NH. I have been using one of the original design tents since 2001. I think it is a great tent and well constructed. I also have a Tee Pee Tent made by them that sleeps 3 with all their gear and weighs 2.5 lbs. If I’m going out with a group this is the tent I bring. You should check them out www.moonbowgear.com.
