Tejon Ranch - Pacific Crest Trail

I saw sad news on the pcta website today. The Tejon Ranch Trail relocation. Does anyone know if the trail is complete through here yet for the class of '09?

I really enjoyed Aquaduct day in '07(cold and windy, though I know it’s usually hot). Hiker Haven let us use the car (not the Rolls though) to go to that awesome little store 1 mile down the road. Full resupply available. Does the new trail route now mean were going to miss the beautiful section through the Mojave? That would suck. How many more miles does this add between resupplying at the store by the Anderson’s, and Mojave? seems like it would be a significant amount of miles. Are there any new resupply options near this new route?

Hopefully the new trail section will be awesome, but I have to seriously say that we have lost a beautiful and extrememly unique section of the PCT with this land grab which seems to be just an excuse to develop huge portions of the Tejon ranch with ugly suburban sprawl all the worthless yuppies in so many cities seem to love, by making a few conservation areas. Yes look into it. The protecting of some of the Ranches land was only a way to get approval to develop a bunch with more ugly houses. At least Arnold got a nice photo shoot out of the deal.

It will be a few years before Tejon is open for PCT hikers. The language of the easement for the PCT is still being worked out, and the actual physical location of the trail needs to be sited and mapped, then the actual work of building the trail will commence. There is also the relocation of the north and south “ends” that will connect the new trail to the existing trail. So, much to be done before it’s hikable. But it’s all actively in the works.

The new Tejon Conservancy is the single largest ever created in California history, and is truly remarkable in its size and scope. It is a huge coup for the PCTA and many conservation groups who were active in pushing for the conservancy with Tejon… Yes, there will be a development, but what Tejon Ranch donated is way, way more than anyone expected.

There will be more miles to the trail; at least 37 plus the connectors, yet to be determined. There will be another resupply stop at Hwy 138 eventually, but Tehachapi and Mojave will still be viable stops, probably Tehachapi moreso.

And, BTW, it was Hiker Town, not Hiker Heaven, that loaned you the car to go to Gil’s Country Store.

Thanks for clarifying that Mrs. Saufley. Sorry for confusing Hiker Heaven and Hiker town. I have to say I really appreciated your services at Hiker Heaven. Thanks for all you do for us PCTr’s. I love the town of Mojave. I’ve never been to Tehachapi before, so I can’t comment on it. Mojave is the only place though where I didn’t feel like the dirtiest person on the streets. Plus all services within a block of a really cheap Motel 6 was cool. I saw a man wearing a full leather trench coat walking down the street there in a 105 degree weather pushing a empty stroller. :nerd

Donna:

Would the Tejon re-route bypass Agua Dulce and Hike Heaven?

The Tejon Ranch reroute is a couple days hike north of Agua Dulce. There is a separate reroute planned that would move the trail through Agua Dulce about a mile to the east of where it is now, eliminating the road walk through town. Sadly, this means a little farther to Donna’s and to Sweetwater Market
