Temperature Range

Could someone give me an idea of what a typical day looks like on the JMT as far as temperatures? Wake, day, evening, and night? And if this differs on different parts of the trail.

Tanks,

Bob,
It depends on when you go. I prefer late July / early August when the daytime temps are shirtsleeve and the nights are warm enough for long sleeves but not a jacket. Two years ago I spent 15 days in the Sequoia / Kings Canyon backcountry - including the Upper Kern - and never wore long pants.

The year before that, roughly the same timeframe, I had serious morning ice at Wallace Creek!

It all depends. I carry 2 pairs of shorts, 2 t-shirts, a long sleeve flannel shirt, a rain jacket and capaline long johns. So far, that’s been enough.

Sorry, I should have included that. I’ll be going Late July / early August. I’m surprised how warm you say it is. I thought it was generaly much colder at night.
