Tenn AT hike - Appalachian Trail

Greetings. I am staying in Gatlinburg this weekend and hoping to do a small hike ( few hours) and would appreciate any suggestions. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on the road to a trailhead as I will have already driven for awhile to get to TN. Anyone have a spot to recommend? Thanks.

Go by the Happy Hiker or the Sugarland Visitor’s Center and get a copy of the small Brown Book “Hiking Trails of the Smokies.” It will give you many choices. You will also find my name on Pages vii and 420. Choose a hike to suit your desire.

Charlie’s Bunion is a great hike. It is four miles north on the AT leaving from Newfound Gap and has great views. Another
good hike is the Chimney Tops. It is an uphill trail for 1.1 mile and then you go UPHILL for about a mile. It is also a out and back. It isn’t as bad as it sounds. It isn’t part of
of the AT but is worth the hike.
