I had no problems setting up my Clip Flashlight which is not free standing. I tied down to the platform. ALL the platforms I used had somewhere to tie to. Scaper

When you guy your tent out you try to minimize movement of the tent. If you have a guy point on your tent, tying a single guyline to a single stake will stop the tent from moving away from that stake. It is much better to use multiple guylines for a single stake. For example, if there are 2 guy points on your tent then use guyline in a “V” shape to tie to a single stake. All movement is eliminated except towards the stake itself. My tent has 3 guy points on each side, I use 4 stakes and 8 guylines to create 4 “V’s”, all movement is eliminated in all directions. Also, you want the angle of the guyline as close to 90 degrees as possible, ie. tying to a tree is better than tying to the ground. This would eliminate the stake being pulled up out of the ground.
