I am looking for a free standing ultra lite tent and would appreciate suggestions.

We have a 17-day permit N to S and will be leaving in the middle of August from Toulmene Meadows. We are going to take 3-days to get to Red’s and purchase some food to get us to Muir Ranch to pick up a re-supply package that we will mail ahead. I figure 3-days to Red’s, but am not sure how many more days to plan until we hit Muir Ranch and how many days to plan for after Muir Ranch until the end at Mhitney Portal. Does anyone know these distances and/or have a suggested daily itinerary for a 17-day JMT trip?

Tent–You don’t need freestanding for the JMT (the tarptent Contrail worked fine for me) but if you want a freestanding tent anyway, I’ve been looking at the Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 and the MSR Hubba. MSR also has the Hubba HP which is lighter but with less ventilation.
Distances—I stopped after Reds at Deer Creek. From there it took 3 days to MTR, including a night at VVR. MTR to Whitney Portal was 9 days, but you could go faster if you really wanted to.

Black Diamond Hilight. Perfect for solo folks with gear. Adequate, but you gotta really like your tentmate if you put 2 folks in it.

I used the Rainbow 1 man from tarp tent on the JMT last year and I plan to use it again this year. Easy set up and little weight.
