Heading southbound from manning to kennedy meadows-what would be some tent suggestions? Planning on leaving mid June.

First of all, I’d suggest waiting 2 weeks to a month on that start date. We’re getting hammered with snow in the north Cascades right now. Odds are, with the La Nina conditions, the Cascades will have an average to above average snow pack for the year. You’ll be in lots of snow for a good chunk of Washington at least with a mid-June start from Manning. But…if you’re looking for an adventure, hey, what the heck. (Check out Catwoman & Squirrel Meat, 2007, on Trailjournals for an idea of mid-June PCT in the N. Cascades conditions).

Tents - Pretty much any of the light weight tents, tarps or shelters should do you well. I like and have used my Tarptent since 03 (it served me well on the PCT in 06). 6 Moons also has highly rated products. The Hubba was higly rated by a gal I hiked the PCT with. Generally June and July in Washington are months of decreasing probability of rain, with August being the lowest probability. That being said, it can and occasionally does rain for a several days straight that time of year. A good shelter comes in handy for those times it’s raining.

Also, with the start time you indicate, you’ll likely be in bug season through a good part of Washington and Oregon (assuming reasonable progress). Something to consider when it comes to shelter selection…
