I am planning a trip for the long trail early next May and am looking to buy a new tent, is a Kelty Teton 3-Season going to be enough protection early in the spring or should I plan on spending a little more?

The Long Trail in early May is going to be a “mud bowl”. Plan on hiking slower and lower mileage if that is when you are going to hike.

This might be a good place to start looking at what others felt about that tent.

LT in early May is likely to be as much a snow bowl as a mud bowl, and officially, the trail is closed until Memorial Day for a chance to dry out.
As far as the tent goes, any decent three-season tent will do in May - bug protection will be the most important feature.
