Just hiked the state of Maine and I agree MATC has done an outstanding job maintaining a long section of the AT. I especially appreciate their trail signs with fairly accurate milage…maybe the best on the trail.

I hiked the Saddlebacks this summer and have to agree that MATC does an outstanding job in a very remote and rugged section of the trail. Much better then the folks just south of them.

As a SOBO, my first exposure to the AT was Maine. By Old Speck, I was used to good blazing, trail conditions, and excellent maps. I thought that the entire trail would be as well maintained, mapped, and signed as MATC’s section.
2000 miles later, I can say that MATC does an outstanding job with an especially rugged section of the AT. Many thanks to the MATC maintainers for their work. Now if you could just do something about those wooden log shelter floors…
