The Basics - Appalachian Trail

Hi all - looking for info re Capilene. People list as their basics for AT starting and cold weather but I see there are different weights. Is this ‘Expedition Weight’ or other? Input appreciated!

I just always purchased the lightest Capilene cold weather gear. I never paid attention to what they called it and just went by feel. Recently I have switched to Smartwool as a base layer. It is expensive, but I don’t think I’ll ever go back. You might want to take a look at that before committing to Capilene.

Nature is sooo right! The Smartwool or Icebreaker next to skin wear is fantastic! It’s so worth the extra money plus it may be on sale about this time of year… You can wear it for a long time without getting stinky. Yeah, yeah everybody is looking for Under Armor because that’s what the football players are wearing, but it’s just like capilene, techwick, etc.

I do find that I prefer the lightweight, but YMMV. :tongue
