The burn area - Appalachian Trail

There is a long burn area around Buffalo Creek, if my memory is correct. However when you get there make sure you have plenty of water and take breaks in the random pathces of trees for a little shade. It was 106 degrees last year in early July when I thru-hiked the CT with a couple of friends. Have fun out there. That trail gets better everyday as you walk south. Oh when you get to Leadville go to High Mountain Pie, in Salida go to Moonlight Pizza and Laughing Ladies. All of them are the best restaurants in those towns. Tell them TABA said hi. Thanks, I hope this will help you out.

Taba, How are you?
The burn area on the CT was also brutal to me. I drank lots of water at the start of the section, carried 5 liters with me and was out of water and quite dry when I reached the “emergency” water at the Fire Station.

In 05 after taking a break in one of those patches with trees, I began hiking the wrong way, and did not realize it for an hour. The water I had stored for the walk thru was gone before I could reach the firehouse. I camped near the remains of old federal campground. The next day leaving all my gear except my water containers i walked down to firehouse got water, walked into BC and got gatorade, I was very dehydrated. Back to my camp i felt much better, packed up and continued south.

RichardD:
I am good. I am going on another quest this year. I will be riding my bicycle roughly 600 miles from Lexington, KY to Damascus, VA for Trail Days then on to Gatlinburg, TN where I will send the Bicycle home and start a thru-hike on the Mountains to Sea Trail.
Charles J Brown: My friend and hiking partner also took a nap, woke up and went the wrong direction for about 15 minutes. It’s not hard to get turned around there.
