The Hayduke Trail

The Hayduke Trail, is an 812mi unofficial footpath enspired by a character from the Edward Abbey book , The Monkeywrench Gang. The trail links six national parks in southern Utah and northern Az. The path of the trail somewhat follows Haydukes march in the book. This is by no means a well troden trail and navigational skills are needed. Information about the trail can be found at www.deepdesert.com. Awesome to see this put together and so correctly named. If you haven’t read the book, check it out… “Keep It Lit” Lumber

I think this trail was written up in Backpacker a few years ago. From what I remember, it isn’t really a trail… there’s no actual footpath in many places, at least not between parks.

Have they actually gotten it on the ground?

To find out about the trail go to www.deepdesert.com. Its a trail, but at parts you need orienteering skills to navigate sections. Its not for the inexperienced hiker, or any who hiked the A.T. and got lost.
