We have a hot stove hiking league where I used to work. This is how it works. The 5 of us interested in hiking each pick 10 hikers who have logged in to this web site, (TJ) who intend on making a thru hike this year. We pick our teams on the 1st of March.(even if they have already started) The idea is to read over all the journals and try to figure out who will make it to the end of the trail. In addition to the credit of 1 point per mile you earn 100 bonus point for the following, photo of the plaque at the top of Springer, photo in front of the headquarters in Harpers Ferry, for eating the quart of ice-cream, photo of the sign at the top of Mt Washington and last but not least, the photo of that person behind the sign at the top of Katadin. The team with the most points wins. If one of your picks stops posting to 40 days they are considered off the trail at the point of the last post. Your points stop when your hiker gives up. Of course you can make up your own rules for your league. I have never won, I can’t even pick 7 out of 10 who even start the trail. It’s fun to keep track of your team…
