The guidebook by Dan Bruce (Wingfoot)comes out every January. The 2006 one is available at his site here < http://www.trailplace.com/portal/index.php > You’ll probably need to check back later to pick up the '07 handbook.

Good luck, and see you on the trail!

The Thru-Hiker’s Companion is cheaper, more up to date, and supports a good cause. Plus, you can download it.

I like the companion too. They update more info each year. That includes deleting misinfo as well. Being a spiral bound book, the Companion can be more readily personalized for data you’d like to carry. Wingfoot’s guide is perhaps funnier. His guide is the referent for many jokes along the trail. You will miss out on these if not familiar with him. On the other hand, Dan doesn’t include as many interesting backdrop stories of historical locals. In the end, the Companion keeps improving while Wingfoot is more or less static. Now how about including profile maps in the margins?
