You know what a big psycological blow was? Walking off the the north side of Katahdin on August 29th following blue blazes. I was lost. It wasn’t right. I still disdain the knife edge because the blazes were blue. DOn’t get me wrong, I was the first guy to take a blue blaze trail when it reared it’s ugly face, but I just wasn’t in the mood to finish the trail. After following white blazes for nearly 6 months, I had a wierd bond with them. They shown the way; and symbolozed so much. I had friends that carried out a white blaze that had fallen of of a tree in a huge hunk of bark. I had pissed on them, spat on them, cursed them, loved them, seen the trail beacuse of them, gotten “lost” because of them, Laughed at them, barked at them, hit them, beat them, beat my head with them, from both sides I watched them, I missed a few of them, but now I miss them. I WILL be back. Next year I’m planning on the Long Trail from Canada to the southern border of VT, pciking up the AT, and heading south to Mass/CT somewhere. I’ll see you jokers on the trail.
