If anybody plans on hiking in the White Mountains for the next few days or knows somebody who is, make sure they are prepared. We all know the stories, but sometimes, when it is as hot as its been, it is easy to discount them. In any case, it is supposed to be real ugly above the treeline for the rest of the week. As of mid-afternoon today (August 6), temps are in the mid-thirties with 50+ mph winds on Mt. Washington. They’ve already had a couple of “sleet showers” today, including one that “whitened the ground”, and there is a liklihood of more rain, sleet or snow showers through tonight with accumulations of rime ice tonight as well. In other words, it is going to be nasty up there folks. Don’t let anybody be fooled by the nice weather in the valleys.
