Thru hike - Appalachian Trail

I have a question. I don’t want to sound like a wing nut hiker but, what constitutes as a thru hike? Does slack packing count what about skipping a mile here and there or taking a blue blaze because of a storm do all these things still mean you hiked the AT. I think most thru hikers would agree that they don’t take the bad weather trail no matter how bad it gets. It’s a honor thing.” I walked through hell and back.” I know only you can decide, but what do people think constitutes as a thru hike. The ATC is vague in this area. Do you have to walk past every white blaze? That is what I consider a thru hike. What do other people think? Where to you draw a line and say it is not a thru hike.
