Thru-Hike Fundraiser

Hi all! I'm a combat vet thru-hiking on July 1st, 2014 looking for a challenger to go north as I go south to compete against and make the fundraiser that much more fun to watch and get involved with. Why? I'm hiking for the Wounded Warriors Program for obvious reasons and Ovarian Cancer Research in memory of my Mom. I'll have a tracker on me so people can see online how far I go every day and donate based on challenging me to a certain amount of miles. If I hit the miles they want, they donate. It would be even more interesting if someone was doing the same thing in the opposite direction.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks so much for your time!

This is a hiking forum. Nobody here has any money. You should post on other forums, such as military and cancer sites.

Are you starting NOBO or SOBO in July?
Have you done any long distance hiking to date?
If so, where and for how long?

Traditionally, north bounders start from Springer in March or so, and south bounders start from Katahdin in June or so. There are good reasons for these hike windows. Have you considered the seasonality of the hiking and terrain?

I actually read your post CharlieMike, and I think this is an awesome idea to raise awareness for both causes, however, I might suggest choosing one or the other and contacting the organizations directly (wounded warrior or the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance) to arrange the means for donations - that way they have the tax liability/legal liability and all you have to worry about is conditioning and gear (you might even talk to gear mfgs.) And this IS a great place to post looking for hiking challengers, after all, this is a hiking website. We have no money, but we do have a plethora of hikers. Another website too, that might be of interest is called "whiteblaze." There might be some other people there as well that would be interested and willing to join on as a challenger. I dont care for that website, personally, but it is aimed at the AT specifically. I respect and thank you for your service in the armed forces. Good luck.

After actually READING your post and seeing that you are not seeking contributions... here are my 2 cents (tax free). WWP is a wonderful cause and should be supported by anyone who appreciates their freedom. I think one going North and one going south would be difficult logistically because of different start times. Obviously you have contacted WWP and registered your fundraising event. Find a partner who is a wounded warrior and show the country that wounded warriors can still be productive and functioning members of society, which is one of the aims of WWP. Drop by peacelovehike(dotcom) and give me your particulars so we can support your efforts and advertise for you!!!!!!
