I’d like to hook up with other people planning to hike in 2011.Amish gypsey

Believe me, you will meet many, many new friends from the very first day you get on the trail. I started with 16 people that spent the night with me at the Hiker Hostel in Dahlonega the night before. Another idea is to go to the “Whiteblaze” website. There is a thread there just for 2011’ers.

I agree with Sparky. Best thing to do is just show up and start walking. There will be many people–many prospective thru-hikers, section-hikers and even some people who weren’t planning a thru but end up doing one. Your pace, their pace, weather, commitments, etc will all factor in over time and the people you meet will change as a result.
Will you give buggy ride to town?

Just realized this is the CDT he’s asking about, Whole different thing. There is a CDT_L or something board somewhere that people use, not sure of the link. There will only be a handful of people starting when you are, and if you don’t hike together you’ll almost never see 'em.

Go to backcountry.net and sign up for cdt-l. That is the best place to make contacts for the cdt. Postholer.com also has a cdt room, though it isn’t very busy.
