Tick Magnet - Appalachian Trail

So it seems ticks of all kinds just love my blood type, because anytime I step foot into the woods I come back with like 17 of them on me somewhere. Thing is, I’m heading out for about 2 months and don’t really know how I am going to handle it. Does anyone know any tricks to either prevent, or get rid of them?

I understand what you are going through. I think God just made a small mistake. He meant to make us Chick Magnets, but accidently made us Tick Magnets… sigh…

Any, spray down your cloths with permithin, use deet, and do a tick check at night (and at noon if you are in a tick-ridden area).

For some damn reason, they like to crawl to the one spot I can’t get 'em.

Anyhow, I’d heard that spraying your boots with deet will help quite a bit; but what is permithin?

Damn spelling… Permethrin…

Here’s a link with good info : http://www.travmed.com/trip_prep/insect_permethrin.htm

That’s all you can do, spray your socks with DEET and wear shorts and flick the Tick. TICKS also like you because your sweaty in a test I saw on TECHTV.com just the other day,as far as that magnet thing, check maybe you can find it on their site?? I don’t think it matters, cause that’s impossible to stop sweating now.
Why do so many you all hate DEET so badly, your not bugs? Why is that I find people seem to be afraid of DEET on the trail? Even to just spray their socks even? It still is the best ask me, I checked around already to. I never could figure that out why most you won’t wear DEET.
Keep it in one of those spray bottles, called REPEL. The pump will last 20 years and still pump the DEET you can buy at REI to fill the REPEL pump bottle. To spray your socks or hat for years, just right, without getting it on my hands or in my eyes and not get DEETitus, if you know what I mean.

the most fool proof solution is…hike in winter. no bugs, no humidity, no bears, no buggers in your pack, ears, eyes, …or other nooks and crannies  (doesn’t matter which one’s the nook or the crannie)
as for magnets, i like hiking with a friend who’s a bug magnet because they all go to her  does that make her a magnetic chick?..and if there’s a bear, she runs slower… i guess it’s because she’s obviously much sweeter than i so the bugs prefer. maybe “3D” is a sweetie too, or just doesn’t have enough scandinavian blood. my dad never used bug spray in the north woods of MN and they just don’t go for him. it could have something to do with the liquor diet though. try that,in moderation.
