Tilley Hat - Arizona Trail

After hiking past Revis Ranch I realized my tan canvas Tilley Hat blew away in a wild storm. I didn’t feel it fly away in the wind, rain and hail. Has anyone found it? Tilleys are guaranteed for life. When one wears out the registered owner sends it back for a free replacement. The lost hat was my third or fourth hiking hat. =(

Are you offering a reward to the person who finds your lost hat, or are you just hoping that some good soul has found it so you can swindle another hat out of Tilley for yourself? I just don’t understand the sense of entitlement some hikers have with gear and clothing manufacturers…:rolleyes

Someone got out of bed on the wrong side.
I agree that people shouldn’t knock shoe manufacturers because they lose toenails on rough ups and downs, but Marcia seemed to be making an innocent request. I expect she knows that hat probably won’t be found, (at least in our lifetime) and if it is, it’ll sit one someone elses head for the rest of its wearable life.

Dear MrsGorp,

It goes without saying that I would pay a reward to the finder along with shipping costs.

Also, I do not swindle gear companies or any other companies (Tilleys is not specific to backpacking). I resent the public slur on my character.

FYI, Tilley Endurables are permanently guaranteed for wear http://www.tilley.com/owners_manual.asp. I’ve bought two and would like to have both. The company knows purchasers by address and telephone number.

I also resent hikers with a sense of entitlement of any sort: i.e. free food, reduced fees at campgrounds, hitches.

I wish you and any wearer of my hat a good day.

Marsha,
Where is your sense of humor? I do hope you find your hat.

I should have known better than to use the word “swindle” in my response. Had I given it more thought I would have used “snookered.” My purpose was not to slur your character, just poke a little humor in your direction.

I did not know about Tilley’s two year, all perils, 50% deductible policy to replace a “lost” hat. Never before, had I ever heard of a company which would replace lost products. BRAVO to Tilley!!

Hope all is well with you and someone finds and returns your hat. This way, with your previously lost hat in hand you can get a guaranteed for life replacement without having to place a claim under the provisions of their lost hat policy and pay 50% of current retail value.

Let go of the “resentment”, life is too short. It was especially full of beauty on this gorgeous autumn day.

Thank you, MrsGorp. If you’re on the Arizona Trail forum does that mean you’re planning an AZT hike? Hike on!
