Tioga Rd Open - Pacific Crest Trail

According to the Yosemite National Park website, the Tioga Pass Road opened this morning (June 24) at 8am. That means that PCT hikers may be able to find a ride to the valley for resupply.

However, I could not find any information on when the store/restaurant in Tuolumne will open. Past experience indicates that it often takes a couple weeks after the road is open for the store to be supplied and open.

Good luck to all the hikers who are braving the Sierras right now.

As we plan to hike there in july and I saw on the website that July 8th is the planned opening for the lodge/facilities

hope this helps!

I was up in Tuolumne over the weekend and stopped by the restaurant / store - it is open now. The pass wasn’t bad but the high country did still have a ton of snow.

I was also in Tuolumne this weekend, and all services were closed. Rob, when did you go through? Both Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, the store, etc. were boarded up and the parking lot taped off.

But the good news is that with the road open, it should not be difficult for hikers to hitch to the valley or to Lee Vining for a resupply. The even better news is that with all the services closed, hiking there is very peaceful. We headed up Lyell Canyon for an overnight backpack trip and saw no one after the first few miles. We actually carried in a little magic just in case we saw any thrus, but met no one. The canyon was clear (other than in heavily treed sections), but there is still considerable snow above 9,500 -10,000 feet, with heavier snow in areas that do not receive direct sun.
