Hey all, I’m just now starting to plan a through hike on the International AT, starting in March. My question is, what does everyone think about drop shipping food along the trail, or are there plenty of places to buy resupply along the way?

Don’t know about the international part, but from Springer to Katahdin I didn’t do any food drops in '08. My longest food carry was 100 miles, which I did twice. I had to live on hot dog buns and peanut butter for a couple of days, but to me it was worth not messing with POs and businesses for mail drops. Best of luck on the hike.

I did maildrops and wished I hadn’t. Unless you have special dietary restrictions or meds that you can’t get at gas-marts…really not worth it.

No need of maildrops on theI.A.T. You wil be able to resupaly every two or three days. Addy. I.A.T 2005
