To Tent or Not - Appalachian Trail

How do folks feel about carrying a tent on an End-To-End hike on Vermont’s Long Trail? Is it really necessary?
Thanks

I hiked the entire trail and never pulled the tent out of my pack. That being said, I also hiked in the fall. If I had stumbled across a crowded or particularly buggy shelter, it was nice to have a plan B. I’d definately suggest carry some type of shelter, just make it a light one!

I just hiked the Monadnock Sunapee Greenway trail and brought my little clip flashlight tent. Glad I did. All shelters were empty but the mosquitoes were out in force. I enjoyed the evenings laying in my tent watching the little buggers hang on to the bug screen desperately begging to come in.
