Topo Maps at Sierra Vista Library

Just in case anyone finds themselves in Sierra Vista hanging around waiting to start their hike…

The Sierra Vista Public Library has all the 7.5 minute topo maps for the AZ trail (so long as they haven’t been stolen). You can’t take the maps out of the building, but they have a copy machine. So if anyone wanted to take a closer look at a trail section before they set out…

Why would anyone be hanging out in Sierra Vista to start a hike? We lived there Jan 1979 - Jun 1979 when there was one stop light in town, and Ft. Huachuca was the only game in town. We did hike up Miller Peak while we lived there. We lived in Los Arcos Mobile Home Park - at the time it was actually new and very nice. Drove through it about 20 years later and it was pretty hideous. Run down and filthy.

…why would someone be hanging around in the city nearest the start of the trail?

My best guess is that someone might be hanging out here because it’s the nearest town to the trail. So they might come in on one day, get a room or something, and start the next day. And between the arrival and the departure, they might have time to spend.
