What are some towns along the A.T. that aren’t good to resupply in?

Do you want to resupply with mail drops or stores? Many towns have small stores with limited selections but do have Post Offices.

Assuming that you mean what towns don’t have a store or other source of food:
The first that comes to mind is Port Clinton PA. However, the post office is almost on the trail. About 2 years ago, an outfitter opened in this town, but I don’t know what he stocks for backpacking food.
The second would be Glencliff, NH. Can’t even buy a soda in this hamlet, unless the great folks at Hikers Welcome have something. A mail drop is important here because this is the last place to pick up extra gear before going into the White Mountains.
The third would be Fontana Dam. The small store there doesn’t carry much for backpacking type foods. Especially early in the spring when thru-hikers are coming through. (it’s about 2 weeks from Springer). It’s an important resupply point because it is just before the Smokies.
That’s probably the bear minimum for mail drops.

In Glencliff we got the guy at the hostile to run us to town for around 15.00 a car load.

The guy at Port Clinton didn’t have any trail food when we were there last year.
The guys in Glencliff (Big John and Packman) carry some foods. They can take you to town for a great dinner and to buy food. Big John drove 6 of us around for about 2 hours for $15.00 (divided 6 ways). It was worth every penny of it.

The owners of the Hike Inn at Fontana Dam, Jeff and Nancy Hoch, drove a group of us to Robinsville, where we resupplied. They didn’t charge us anything for the ride out and back (at least, I don’t recall that they did; although, I think we offered them some gas money.) They also picked us up and brought us back to the trail. (We called them from the payphone at the dam, as the Companion instructed.) The motel was $15 per person INCLUDING laundry when I stayed there in 2000. Might want to call and confirm if things are still the same, but I had no problem resupplying there.
John, the owner of the Hikers Welcome Hostel in Glencliff, NH, drove a group of us to the nearby town to resupply and eat dinner. I don’t recall he charged us anything if we were staying at the hostel. Again, no problem resupplying, but a call ahead would be a good idea. Don’t know if he still owns the place.
I didn’t use food maildrops. OCCASIONALLY the choices were limited, but that never bothered me. I did bounce a box ahead to myself at Pinkham Notch in the Whites, though, in order to get me through to Gorham. IMO, one can always pack up a bounce box and send it ahead if you hear there might be some trouble resupplying.
