Towns - The Long Trail - Vermont

I am new to thru hiking and wanted to do the Long Trail this summer with a friend. How often should I expect to make stops in towns along the trail? How much food should I carry at a time? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

you shouldnt have to carry more than 5 days worth of food w/ you at any time on the long trail, you arent really ever more than a day or 2 away from a town, some are harder to get to than others , but there all possible when you get to a main rd crossing, hitching is usually pretty easy in VT with a pack on, i always got a ride pretty quike, lots of cool people in VT,
i did the trail last yr, thinking of doing the lower 100 miles again this yr.

Thank you backtrack and bubble boy. Backtrack you were a lot of help and bubble boy do not worry I am staying a night in Killington and The Inn at Long Trail is one of my favorite stops in the area so I will definitely stop by for a beer and hopefully get to hear some good tunes.
