Trail Angel "Apple" caught in storm

Apple’s big tent is up in February this year instead of March. Or should I say WAS up in Feb. Unfortunately one of the recent snow storms in the Burningtown gap area, totally destroyed his $5000.00 orange dome tent. He is still out there helping out where he can, using a smaller replacement tent. This man has done so much to help hikers over the years that I thought we should all send out good thoughts on his behalf.

What about a donation to help replace the tent? Anybody know where to send it? Maybe Winton @ Neel’s Gap or Ron in Franklin would be willing to collect donations and pass them on.

That is really nice and I appreciate it but not necessary. I plan to replace it with an old reliable Wall Tent but wont be online until November SOBO season. Meanwhile the smaller tent seems to be OK for the smaller crowds coming thru in February. So far 5 folks have slept in the smaller tent and it is actually much cozier than the big dome. Man, it has been brutal up there this year. It was 10 yesterday and 12 today. There are drifts up to my knees. I try to man the site from 10 to 5 but I stay in Andrews at night. The tent is self-serve anyway. Thanks again, APPLE

Apple is the best! My son Lil Wayne and I spent the night in that orange tent with Spaceship, Lex and Intence. Also heard my only Saw-whet owl of the whole thuhike that night.
