Trail angeling July 14-15 at Sonora Pass

I’m thinking of bringing some folks up from the Bay Area on the 14th-15th to do some Trail Angel duties, but I’m wondering if anybody will still be coming through then.

I’d like to stick with that date; is there a better choice, farther north perhaps? With this year’s snow level so low, it seems like a lot of folks might already by past Sonora Pass by the 14th.

Any feedback is welcome.

Tom I was up there June 26th and 27th and met about 20 hikers. I plan on going up again on July 2nd. I had good sources tell me that most hikers will be through the last week of june and the first week of July. There could always be some people just taking their time. Bring lots of Fruit hikers loved the peaches and apples I brought. Also fill up on gas in Oakdale it was 2.99 a gal. In Bridgeport it is 4.05 a gal and quite the rip off. Some hikers needed a ride into town its about 37 miles from Sonora pass. Im not sure about other places to meet other hikers but I emailed PCTA and got a response really fast.

I’m in Central WA (White Pass area) & hope to meet up with some through hikers this Fall. There is an access trail (#1118 Tieton Pass)that is only 4.5 miles from the PCT & the kids and I hope to run a “rest stop” for four days in late August, early September? Not sure when the pack comes through our area, or if there is even a pack by that time.
Seems like a fun thing to do though - good luck with yours!

I hiked in on #1118 about 11 miles south of White Pass in central Washington. Hiked from there past Lutz lake to McCall Basin then back out. Snow retreating fast, gone almost entirely below 5,000 feet.

The few miles of the PCT I saw were in good shape, with a few blow downs that were easy to go around & no bad washouts. It was nice to be back on the trail again - I love the Goat Rocks section of the PCT!

The access trail was hammered pretty good, but the trail crews (volunteers?) had it about half cleared. Curiously, the higher altitudes seem to have been spared the worst of it.
