A Super Cobra military attack helicopter loaded with live ordinance has crashed in the area of Kitchen Creek/Fred Canyon.
The trail is closed at Boulder Oaks campground.
At Boulder Oaks campground you will leave the trail and walk along Kitchen Creek Road to Mt. Laguna. The reroute adds about 2 miles to the hike. The Cibbetts Flat campground is closed. There is no word out yet on what the water situation is like along Kitchen Creek Road, so you may need to get enough water at Boulder Oaks to get you all the way to Mount Laguna.
There has been a small fire in the Fred Canyon/Kitchen Creek area (approx 2 acres) and there is unexploded ordinance on the ground. The fire is contained and mostly out, except for a few possible hot spots. The area will not reopen until the military confirms that all live ordinance has been recovered from the area.

Hello Scott,
Hey does your post mean that the water is on at Boulder Oaks this year? Every time I go through there it is off. Just trying to confirm if water is on or off at Boulder Oaks.
Thanks for the info.

I don’t have personal information about the water at Boulder Oaks. According to the Water Report, the water was on on 4/14. I can’t say whether the water is on or off now.
I should have simply written that you should make sure you have enough water to get to Mount Laguna without suggesting where that water might be available.

Check the water report. It might tell you if Kitchen Creek is running. Kitchen Creek Road follows Kitchen Creek for a long long way, so if the creek has any water at all where it meets the PCT, you ought to be able to find water on the reroute.
