Trail Conditions: Donner Summit to Seiad Valley

imported
#1

This all comes to me from Map Drawer, who arrived in Old Station yesterday. Only Trauma may be ahead of him headed north.
Donner Pass to Sierra City: So of I-80 was the last heavy snow as of 6/24/06. Drifts with bare spots to the South slope into Sierra City
Sierra City to Buck’s Lake: North slope out of Sierra City clear, all canyons clear. Middle fork of the Feather is O.K… Some drifts at higher elevations. Bridge over Yuba is O.K.
Buck’s to Belden: As Mt. Goat reported to me earlier, all clear except one long (80 to 100’) stretch after the trees. All springs and streams O.K. Poison oak and brush heavy and overgrown before Belden.
Belden to Chester: no snow on the climb out of Belden, but lots of overgrown brush and poison oak. No deep water, but all springs and streams open and running.
Chester to Old Station: All clear, virtually no snow in Lassen Nat’l Pk. King’s Creek is shin-deep, bridge washed downstream but there is a log. A few blowdowns over trail. All lakes on both the trail and the alternate full and clear of '05’s wildfire ash and debris. Water at Badger Flats. Hat Creek.
Old Station , the Rim to Burney Falls St. Pk.: Water caches wesr of the 44 trailhead and at Road 22 are stocked. Currently, it’s HOT on the Rim.

This is what happens when you hit “Enter” instead of “Shift”.
Map Drawer will head out of Old Station this afternoon and will give me a better report as he goes but for now this is what I know.
Burney Falls to Castle Crags: Trail is open, tho the Grizzly Peak/Bartle Gap section may still be a bit of a trial. A sobo who came thru that area last Tuesday sez that at least one hiker was turned back by the snow there. All the rest should be good.
Etna to Seiad Valley: Should be open, Last Tuesday’s sobo said the G. Pk/Bart. Gap stretch seemed worse to him than any parts between Edna and Seiad Valley. If anyone knows different, please let me know
