I'll be leading a school trip on the AT in southern Mass in a few weeks. Anyone know how the trail looks in that area? What's the snow melt situation?

Snow on the ground is slowly melting. Patches of snow everywhere on the trail. In a few weeks the snow should all be gone. The trail will be mud in all lower elevations. It should be ok along the ridge tops. It will still be very cold. Perhaps some of that heat wave in California will make it here. Good luck

Should be fine after the group with the flame throwers goes through today to melt any remaining snow.

The middle to end of April will be the beginning of mud season and that is a swampy section of trail. You should avoid hiking during that time of year as that is when the most damage is done to the trail by hikers.
