My husband and I are wanting to come to Trail Days this year. Having never been before I was wondering what to expect. Are there a whole of people, how should I go about planning for our visit? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There are many people there on Friday and Saturday. But, trail days is great with many vendors giving away lots of free stuff plus great talks on the AT. We always stay in Abingdon which is a 15 minute drive into Damascus because usually everything in Damascus is rented out months in advance. U guys should definetly come u will love it.

It looks more like woodstock or bonaroo every year. Big crowd, loud. They have educational lectures, many equipment companies set up booths. They have a parade. Lots of music and drinking. Burning Man it is not, so bring the kids. If you want, you can set up your tent and sleep for free. If you need a hotel, you need to act now. Everyone has a great time.

Trial days is an event celebrated by all kinds of outdoorsie people, from day hikers, section hikers, and long distance hikers, including this years AT hikers. There is free camping about a mile out of town, with unlimited amount of space in the woods. this area can get a bit wild Saturday night, especially around the bonfire. Or if you prefer a quieter and family oriented camping experience, there are few yards in town offered for tenting, but these spots fill up fast. What’s great about this festival is there is a general respect for all walks of life, there’s room for the rowdy crowed in the woods, and a quieter lawn space for family picnics. The best part is meeting all sorts of people from all different walks of life. Hope you can make it, and have fun! -Turtle Tracks
