Just wondering who was going to traildaze. It looks like I may be able to go and I would love to meet everyone. I’ll keep you posted. -Leif

I was in Damascus yesterday and they’re already coming in! There are camping areas staked out already, the local businesses are already recruiting extra help, the porta johns are starting to bloom.
I’m currently on the 30 day disabled list (knee) but I intend to drive back up (from North Ga.) next week. From all indications there’s gonna be quite a crowd this year.
Hobo Central is moved, the new owners at the Old Mill control the entire grassy area along the river, so there is still some discussion as to what’s going on there. The Island seems to be the primo camping spot again, but it WILL fill up early. There are some new for this year camping areas somewhat removed from the center of town, and they are going to try and keep vehicular traffic to a minimum within the downtown area this year. The proposed $10.00 for 5 days camping permit fee has been scrapped, so at least for this year camping will be as usual, first come first served and free.
A new eatery in town that I can highly reccomend is the Side Track Cafe, owned and operated by Alumnus thru hiker Mountain Man. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner, he’s a very reasonable alternative to the old regulars. Check it out!
See y’all next week!

As to people, about 80% of the hikers I spoke with over the past two weeks either are there, will be there, or will come back for traildaze. It’s gonna be a zoo.
I think the calender of events is up on the Access Damascus website.
I shuttled about 40 people to Springer this year and I’ve seen well over half of them and heard of several more in the 2 weeks I was up in those parts (Dennis Cove Road to Troutdale)
There will be volunteer work parties on Sunday the 20th and Monday the 21st down by Roan Mtn. at the new Round Bald relocation. There is much work to be done here and your help will make a difference. Contact Bob Peoples at the Kincora Hostel (423) 725-4409 or see Forest Phil’s Journal on this website, or check at the ATC table at Trail Days for more information. For hikers currently on the trail, a shuttle is to be available.

Hmmmmm. Don’t know quite how I managed to screw up the composition like that, but all the information is there.

I will be at Trail Days this year passing out bumper stickers and taking pictures for the hiker directory. I should get there on Friday night. It will be nice to meet everyone, so try to track me down.
I will most likely be wearing a Colorado Trail T-shirt with a trail journals bumper sticker on the back of it.
Zipdrive, can’t make trail days, but is going down to Damascus early to set up a camera for the directory at Mountain Man’s store (Side Track Cafe), so you can get your picture taken there as well.

I’ve been here for 3 1/2 days, time to move on. (Leaving Weds @noon.) Sorry I didn’t get to met Leif. How can I get a bumper sticker?
