Been following a lot of different folks on trailjournals, and this morning was curious about who is “Trail end charlie”, ie. the last person northbound. Anyone out there know who the last person to start north this year is, and where they are about now??? There’s always interest somewhere every year in the hare, but what about the turtle???

Me and my girlfriend Little Train finished our Northbound hike at Daicy on November 18, 2001. We had to get off the trail for five weeks due to family emergencies. We wanted to hike the whole trail north, so we drove to Katahdin and summited on October 11, then went back to Gorham and hiked north to Daicy. To my knowledge, we were the last of the NB’s that year. It was fun walking into the store at Abol and telling the hunters we had spent the last 9 days in the 100 mile wilderness…

I know there were a couple of thruhikers around Erwin, TN. a few days ago. They started on Springer, May 21. One of the hikers had ‘Piccolo’ in his trailname, a guy from Minnesota. I don’t think he is keeping a recorded journal. I know the rain is slowing down a lot of hikers.
