Trail food info

Hey, I’m planning a thru hike next March and wondered if anyone could tell me a good place to find info on what’s best to eat on the trail, how many calories I need, etc. Also, I’d like to look up some info on what food is available along the trail at most re-supply places, or if it’s better to do mail drops. Anything would help. Thanks.

I highly recomend the articles that are posted on Whiteblaze.net. Baltimore Jack has tons of good resuply/town information. Weathercarrot also has a good resuply list in his “inexpensive thruhike” tips. As for what to eat and how much, I have one word: YES!. Bear Mtn/Ft.Montgomery is one of the few places that I can think of that it would be easier to maildrop that to buy.

if find it best to maildrop the essentials and buy the rest. it’s easy to tire of what’s in your maildrops after a few months on the trail. buying allows you to mix it up more

it’s a big topic that you’d be able to do some successful searches for. If you have special dietary needs than plan to do a good number of maildrops, because in a lot of towns all you get is a gas station.
For calorie needs, as many as possible, but proper nutrition is actually more important.
