Trail magic anthology

Hey all.

I was thinking of putting together a “trail magic anthology”. It would be a collection of stories about trail magic on the AT - how it happened, how cool it was, and how it impacted your hike. I would compile it into a paperback book, sell it online, and donate all proceeds to the ATC.

Has anything like this already been done? Would anyone be interested in writing an essay about their favorite trail magic to donate to this book?

Just wondering if there would be any interest in something like this. Either reply to this post or email me (ksiefken@earthlink.net) if you are interested.

Thanks.

Spring 98’;
Dicks Creek Gap

My arms and legs are eaten alive with chigger bites. I stay awake the last few nights scratching, and losing my mind.
I stop at Dicks Creek to eat lunch and refill in the fine spring there, and I sit and grumble to myself, not knowing exactly what the hell was wrong.

At first I thought posion ivy, but as I sat there a Station Wagon pulls up, and a little old Lady gets out with milk jugs to fill up at the spring.

I say hello, and she drops her glasses down her nose and says…“You got the chiggers.”
Pardon?
She points up and down my arms and tells me I got the chiggers again…great. She puts her Milk jugs down and walks to her car. She opens the passenger side door, and opens the glove compartment and pulls out a ziplock.

I scratch and watch ehr as she smiles and comes back to me.
She tells me to rub the bites with kerosine and they will stop itching and go away.

I look, and in her hand is a ziplock with a Gerber baby food jar filled with Kerosine, and a ball of cotten. She gives it to me and goes her way.

I was floored.

Out of all the cookouts, amazing coincidences THIS sticks out to me as the highest order of trail magic.

Hi Tank, How are ya???

I have a great story from Roan Mountain Tennessee. Has to deal with convicts, a guy with a brain anurysm, and the Beer Wash. I’d love to contribute that story to your book. I think for me that was the most interesting trail magic (book wise). If you do end up writing it, let me know and I’ll get you that story. Actually, it is out on my TJs site for April 30th.
