Yes all the roads to the top of Greylock is closed for two years 2007 and 2008.
They are doing construction on the road and it would not suprise me that it was not open in 2008. July and August is when most of the thru’s go by Mass.

I think all roads up Greylock are closed. That’s what the sign at the MA/VT border said. You can still hike it though. Also, not too many thrus that started in GA up in MA yet but there are some. There are also many people doing significant sections or ones who started midway or southbounders so still plenty of hikers to feed. The trails were busy. Have fun!

Magic is something that just happens, not a planned event broadcast on the internet.
Think about it, Earl Shaffer did not have water bottles and coolers waiting for him at every road crossing in 1948 and he made it all the way to Katahdin.
If you leave and drive-walk away from, water bottles, a cooler, and or food, it’s abandoned gear on public lands, and will most likley be removed as trail trash by the local maintaining club if you do not come back to clean up your mess you just created.
There are actual LAWS against this in some areas, and fines have been issued for people disobeying the law in the past, don’t YOU be next.
I am a trail club member for many years, and encourage you to join a club, do some volunteer work that will help many hikers over a long period of time, not just a few until the ice melts the next day.
Help empty a privy someday, instead of always just filling them up all the time! hehe
Please do your part to help keep some areas of the Appalachian Trail clean of trash, and naturally wild for the next and future generations.
