I know you have been waiting with baited breath for this mileage. After making a list and checking it twice. I took all the extra mileage to each shelter and doubled it and came up with 49.8 miles extra. so if you visited each shelter, not counting the trail towns you have hiked this plus what ever the mileage is at this time add aprox. 50 miles (of course this keeps changing)

…why are the newer shelters located a HALF MILE or more off the main trail???
i’m sure there’s a good explaination for this…
but, cant think of one…most of the older shelters (i stayed in the 1938 built Deer Park Shelter this May) are only 2/10 mile off trail or less…some actually right off the trail pathway by a few yards (usually in a Gap).
